In-Between You are there
Quietly and do not notice I am here
And go on about your way,
This way and that way,
And in a chance turn to face me,
But your eyes go through me.
And, I can see everything about you
Has a kind of dark-haired quiet to it
And speaks in hushed and timid tones
That there is something more to it.
I see you have a classic beauty to you
In the way God let your hair fall
And set your beautiful and strong face up like a wall
Between everything in you
And everything in me,
But that there is space between us now
Simply means we have to bridge the gap somehow.
Even still, it seems we cannot be,
As my mind turns toward th
True I want to say that my words will reach you,
That if I talk enough --
Say enough -- loud enough
And speak in your general direction,
That you'll make the connection
That that quick breeze against your cheek
Was once a word to speak
And to be heard,
But, being too real to be a word,
My emotion took to flight
With only you in its sight.

I want to think you know my words are true,
That if they all have substance --
True substance -- real substance
And they all come from my heart
As a whole and not just a part,
That you will be able to believe
And form a notion to conceive
In you a space for me
Where at least my words can be
An
I Swear, Today is Different Amends --
   I won't make them!
And lessons --
   I won't take them,
   Not from the wisdom
   That breaks in
   Like a burglar
   Or the cop that stakes them!
They are lost on me now.
For, way back then,
When I could be convinced by how things had been,
I found myself without,
Not looking within!
Heat for Bones Heat for bones
That have grown cold
To the years
That are here
Licks at my fingertips,
Like witches,
And runs down my spine,
Like a book,
Tearing me down from the top,
Down like the tower:
I am razed to the ground.

In this fire burns the light of a man,
The pure-white bones of his hands,
And the well-worn crease of his back,
And the legs, tired of swaying,
That make him who he is --
Not divinely powerful,
But mortally effective --
Not divinely inspired,
But well-read --
Not divinely present,
But planted in the ground
To raise to a new life.
Samsara Human eyes,
Fickle and callous and full of surprise
At the sight of you --

My heart longs to tell you
That you are the very model of perfection to me
And that my eyes cannot properly see
All of the things you could mean to me.

But you have walked out of my life,
Trouncing upon that inspiration,
Leaving it in a pile of broken words,
Lined with your corrections,
And my mind cannot fathom how you would want to be
Anything but perfect to me!
And, so, that part of me chokes and dies on its words,
That you would not want to be beautiful, lovely, and distinct
But want to be planned and copied and cold.

lol, hurry up and get famous so I can draw you, too. You'll be the first writer-guitarist-poet renaissance who's-he-what's-it of our generation. Then your darker works will get a cult following, and you'll have to shoe people away from your house.

Oh wait, it's because if that were to happen, I won't be dead by 30 courtesy of substance abuse.

We all just want to see you succeed, sans the substance abuse. Substance abuse is definitely a career limiter. :P
